The selection of children's books available about early American civilizations is certainly limited. Children's books are anything but shallow. I was lucky enough to speak at a Missouri SCBWI (SOCIETY OF CHILDREN'S BOOK WRITERS AND ILLUSTRATORS) workshop in St. Children's literature is so important, I truly admire authors who write children's books because I find it so difficult to do so. John Burningham, born in 1936, has written and illustrated over 50 children's books and is a two-time winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal for the distinguished illustration of a children's book. Today I'm excited to have Lisa Rojany Buccieri here to share about her new book, WRITING CHILDREN'S BOOKS FOR DUMMIES 2nd EDITION. They are deep, speaking to meaningful themes with both humor and grace. While most historians believe that people have been living in North America for somewhere between 16,000 to 13,000 years, the written and oral record of how people lived prior to 1,500 is limited. Because I feel wholly satisfied both as a reader and an intellectual when I read books written for kids. It seems incredibly easy to write about and sometimes you do take children's literature for granted. She is the first black woman to be appointed to the position which is awarded in Britain once every two years to a distinguished writer or illustrator of children's books.. Here are seven books that together help introduce children to the lives of people who inhabited North America prior to 1700.
